I want to add one other thing to my series on sports programs and this came from a discussion with my Mom. I think one of the other things that helps Lynden and Lynden Christian become better is that most of the other teams in the leagues they play in also seem to have a passion for improvement.
It follows that if you are constantly playing good competition, the better your team will be. To jump over to hockey, this is why bad hockey teams are always trying to setup games with better teams. yes, they get beat up, but this is how the team improves also. Better teams generally don't care to play teams that are significantly worse--it doesn't help them in any way when it comes to rankings or improving their team. If they win, they "hold serve". If they do poorly, they can potentially lose ranking points.
Back to my home area of Whatcom county, all the teams there are generally always trying hard to win. I know this sounds strange and it is a bit of a generality. The schools don't always have good teams but you know that if you aren't on your toes at all times or you get lazy, you can always lose a game. When you are around this, you will of course not want to be caught sleeping and be a better team.
So the level of competition that you play is also a factor in keeping your teams good, provided being competitive is something you wish to do.
