Can't help this one. My old high school team, Lynden Christian, played cross town rival Lynden High School for the first time in 28 seasons in a football matchup. The schools haven't played simply because Lynden is in a higher level conference and about 7 times bigger and that is a massive advantage for a football team. We use to play them twice a year until their size outgrew our little private school.
But the scheduling and Covid allowed for this to happen this year. LC has a good team. Most normal years we have no business playing them as we would likely not win. But last night the boys travelled to Lynden High and defeated them 28-21. So very sweet to this day to beat that team.
But both teams played hard from what I heard. I did listen to the radio for the second half. I had to stay up and listen. It was late but I was so amped I couldn't sleep right away. Talk about a blast from the past.
Major kudos to coach Van Dalen at Lynden for being willing to schedule LC. They were really in a no-win situation. If they win, that's expected. If they lose, they have to deal with that and losing to a smaller school.
I feel really bad for the seniors here. They have a championship level team and they will not get a chance to prove themselves in the playoffs due to the governance of WA state. I am glad they get to play, but it really isn't good enough.
Anyway, much congrats to the boys and the coaching staff who represented well.
