So this topic is discussed a lot. Do coaches like multisport athletes or not?
Most people you will talk to or hear speak will say that multisport is the best way to go and is fantastic and best for the kids, etc. I tend to agree with all the reasoning they come up with.
I think every coach I have talked to (and our family has been blessed to have many good ones) has agreed that multisport is great and they all like it. Now I don't think that means the same thing to every coach though.
As you know, in most sports, with the possible exception of football, you can play the sport in some fashion all year round, especially in the south. They literally have stuff you can do almost every month and week of the year. I think that for some coaches, liking multisport athletes really means that they like it, as long as it doesn't interfere with the sports that they are coaching.
We have had coaches that have worked with us, because schedules will often conflict. I think a lot of coaches will be willing to work with you and if they are not, you may be on the wrong team.
it gets harder and harder as they get older to keep doing a lot of them at once. The demand and pressure for specialization is always there, especially if your kid is talented at whatever sport you are talking about. It is something I have navigated and will continue to do so. It isn't always easy to do.
